2008 Alumni Club Scholarship Award Recipients

This last spring, the scholarship committee of the Portland Alumni Club awarded 2, $1000 scholarships to two Oregon students.  The University than matched our funds by a 1 to 3 ratio, awarding the final scholarship amount of $3000 dollars!  The committee received the applications from the University, which included 3 admitted, incoming freshmen, and 9 enrolled Trojans.

The scholarship committee conducted 2 interview sessions, interviewing students in-person, and for enrolled students, through the telephone.  The committee decided to award a scholarship to one incoming freshman, and one continuing student and found these students to be exceptional in merit, ambition, as well as qualities that we felt identified them as ambassadors for our community.  Both students and their families have conveyed their appreciation for receiving the award.  All Oregon students are welcome to apply and if you know of one, encourage them to contact the Office of Financial Aid.

            The funds raised were generated from our annual events, such as the golf tournament and the football Weekender.  Participation or your private donations to the club go directly to the scholarship fund.  If you are interested in serving on the scholarship committee, you must actively serve on the board of directors, which meets quarterly, and is open to all.  Please continue in the act of giving, so our students can continue to receive!
